Chocolate salami

Anyway you call it, this dessert is known by everyone in Italy and it’s largely appreciated.

Even if it entered the list of italian traditional agricultural products and in Italy it’s known as English salami, this is a typical dish from Portugal, where it’s called Salame de Chocolate instead.

It’s the classic dessert for inexperienced cookers or for beginners.

This recipe is the one of my grandmother: approved by all her grandchildren, me included!

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams of sugar
  • 100 grams of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 300 grams of crumbled dry cookies
  • 100 grams of amaretto biscuits (optional)
  • about 50 grams of bitter cocoa powder
  • liquor

Preparation:

Melt the butter and let it cool down.

Break the eggs in a bowl and add sugar, cocoa powder, butter and liquor. Mix until the dough is smooth and consistent.

Add dry cookies gradually and stir until they’re well combined with the mixture.

Put it on a baking sheet, roll in order to form a salami and seal so it stays stable.

Store it in the fridge for at least 4-5 hours before serving.

If you want to decorate it, you can add icing sugar on top of it!

Enjoy!
