Gratin Dauphinois

Here is one the French’s favourite family meal. Easy and tasty!

Preparation time : 25 minutes

Cooking time : 50 minutes (or less)

Ingredients

  • 1,5 kg of potatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 30 cl of double cream
  • 1 L milk
  • 2 teaspoons of grounded nutmeg
  • Grated cheese (preferably gruyère)
  • Pepper and salt

Preparation

Skin the potatoes, put them in a large bowl and wash them with cold water. Then cut the potatoes in slices.

Mince the garlic so it is very thin.

Pre-heat the oven to 180°C.

Put the milk in a large pan until it boils, add the salt, the pepper and the nutmeg. Then add the potatoes slices and cut on medium heat for 10 minutes.

Drain the potatoes and arrange them in a large deep dish. Add the cream. And finally the grated cheese.

Cook in the oven for 50 minutes, although I suggest you regularly check the gratin. Depending on the oven 30 minutes is plenty enough time.

Enjoy!
