Meat pie

Meat pies are popular in various places, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Canada, etc. A delicious recipe whose preparation varies from a culture to another. This recipe uses both beef and cheese ! for some extra deliciousness.

Preparation time : 30 minutes

Cooking time : 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 500 gr of puff pastry
  • 100 gr of grated cheese (gruyère preferably)
  • 500 gr of minced beef
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon of mustard
  • pepper and salt
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

Preparation

Roll our some of the dough in a deep baking tin. With a fork jab the dough.

Spread the grated cheese all over the dough.

Pre-heat the oven to 180°C.

In a large bowl, combine the egg, the minced meat, the mustard, pepper and salt, the chopped onion. Combine well and pour the preparation on the dough. Cut the tomatoes in slices and cook them in a pan quickly to get them rid of some of their juices. Then add the tomatoes slices on the top of the preparation.

Pour some oil on the top. With the leftover dough roll it out on the top of the preparation. Seal the doughs together. You can spreak some egg yolk on the top on the pie to give it a nice golden colour.

Cook in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes until the dough is golden brown.

Advice : You can adapt the recipe as you want, add some goat cheese, replace the tomatoes with other veggies such as courgettes. This is a very adaptable recipe.
