Shortbread – A taste of Scotland

Here is a delicious snack to savour with a cup of tea. It comes from Scotland and is quite popular: the shortbread. Originally the shortbread was eaten among the wealthy, now this recipe is more available than ever and quite easy too.

Ingredients

  • 125 grams / 4 oz of butter
  • 55grams / 2 oz caster sugar, plus extra to finish
  • 180grams / 6o oz plain flour

Preparation

Pre-heat the oven to 190° C / 375° C.

In a large bowl beat the butter and the sugar together until you reach a smooth consistency.

Stir in the flour for a smooth dough. On a floured work surface, roll out the dough so it is 1cm thick.

Cut the dough in fingers or in rounds and place the shortbreads on a baking sheet. Leave the shortbreads to chill in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Bake in the oven for 15 – 20 minutes until pale golden brown. Set aside to cool down.

Enjoy !
