Ćepavi is considered by many a Bosnian dish, but it can also be found in other countries for the Balkans.
Ćepavi are addictive mini sausages served in a special Bosnian pita bread called Somun. We tried this recipe at home and it’s amazing! Here’s how you do it…

- 1/2 yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 – 1 1/2 garlic clove, finely chopped
- 20g butter
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2-3 pinches sweet paprika (1 tablespoon)
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- Parsley, finely minced
- 6-8 pita breads
Preparation
- Soak bread in water then squeeze dry.
- Combine beef and lamb in a large bowl with onion, garlic, butter, bread, egg, paprika, salt, pepper and parsley.
- Mix well, making sure all ingredients are well dispersed.
- Shape into sausages the size of a thumb and grill over medium heat until browned and cooked through.
- To serve, cut the pita breads in half, and open the bread to make a pocket.
- You can add a few finely sliced onions inside the pita.
